This policy covers the mobile app Tare – Weight Trend for Android and iOS, published by StudioC14. It does not cover StudioC14's other apps, which have their own privacy policy.

Tare keeps everything on your phone. It has no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs, and it does not request internet access. Nothing you enter is sent to us or to anyone else. We never receive your data, which also means we cannot see it, recover it or delete it for you — only you can, and the app gives you a way to.

What the app stores, and where

  • Your weigh-ins (date, time, weight, an optional note), your profile (height, goal, units, settings) and, if you use them, a PIN and chapters.
  • All of it is stored in a database in the app's private storage on your device. Only Tare can read it.
  • If you set a PIN, it is stored as a salted hash, not as the PIN itself. It cannot be recovered; forgetting it means erasing the app's data, which the lock screen offers.
  • If you turn on the optional garden: the small things you record there (glasses of water, movement, fruit or vegetables, an energy check-in on a five-step scale, a plan for the next day, and wins you write down), each week's goals, and what the garden has grown. It is kept in the same private database and used for nothing but the garden. The garden never uses your weight: a weigh-in counts towards a weekly goal only as a day on which you weighed in.
  • A few small settings, such as the length of your PIN and whether fingerprint or face unlock is on, are kept in the app's private settings on your device.

Fingerprint and face unlock

If you turn on unlock with fingerprint or face (on Android, where your phone supports it), the check is done entirely by your phone's operating system. Tare never sees, stores or sends your fingerprint, your face or any other biometric data; the system tells the app only whether the check succeeded. Your fingerprints and face data stay in your phone's secure hardware, managed by Android. You can turn this off in Settings at any time, and your PIN always works.

Health data

Tare can read health data from your phone's health store, and only if you ask it to:

  • On Android 14 and later: Health Connect. On Android 13 and earlier the feature is not offered at all. Tare requests three Health Connect permissions: read weight, read height and read health data history (records older than 30 days). It requests no permission to write.
  • On iOS: Apple Health (HealthKit).

What is read: your weight records, so that readings from a connected scale or another app appear in your trend, and your height, which is used for one purpose only — to work out the lowest goal weight the app will accept, so it cannot be set to an unhealthy one. On Android, Tare may also ask for permission to read records older than 30 days, so a first import can start your trend from your existing history.

How it is read, and what happens to it:

  • Only with your explicit permission, granted in Health Connect's or Apple Health's own permission screen. The app never asks at launch; it asks only when you tap the import button.
  • Read only. Tare never writes anything to Health Connect or Apple Health, and never changes or deletes what is there.
  • What it reads is stored in the app's private database on your device, exactly like a weigh-in you type yourself. It is never transmitted, uploaded, sold or shared with anyone, including us. The app has no network access at all.
  • It is used only to draw your trend, rate and forecast inside the app, and is never used for advertising or profiling.
  • You can withdraw the permission at any time in Health Connect's or Apple Health's settings. Readings already imported stay in the app until you delete them, as described below.
  • Tare's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Permissions

Besides Health Connect, the app may ask for two permissions: notifications, for the daily reminder if you turn it on, and fingerprint or face, for the unlock if you turn it on. It has no internet permission.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, the app asks your phone for permission to show notifications and schedules them locally on the device. No reminder is sent through any server, and the app has no push service.

Backups

Your phone's own backup — Android Auto Backup to your Google account, or iCloud Backup on iOS — may include the app's data, according to your phone's backup settings. That backup is made by your operating system and is governed by Google's or Apple's terms, not by us. You can exclude the app from backup in your phone's settings.

Export and the report

When you export a CSV or generate a PDF report, the file goes where you choose to save it — a folder, a drive, an e-mail — and from then on is under your control and that location's terms.

Purchases

This version of Tare has no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no paid features.

Deleting your data

Because your data never leaves your device, there is no account to close and no copy held by us to request the deletion of. You can delete everything yourself, at any time, in either of these ways:

  1. In the app: Settings → Your data → Delete everything. This removes every weigh-in, note and chapter, and the garden with everything recorded in it, from the device immediately.
  2. Uninstall the app. This removes everything it stored, including the PIN, your settings and any readings imported from Health Connect or Apple Health.

If you have forgotten your PIN, the lock screen's "Forgotten it? Erase everything and start again" clears the data without the PIN.

Deleting data in Tare does not delete anything in Health Connect or Apple Health, because Tare never wrote it there; use those apps to manage their own records. If your phone's backup contains app data, remove the backup in your Google or Apple account settings.

If you have a question about any of this, write to support@studioc14.de and we will answer within 30 days.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 16 and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Because the app collects nothing, changes are expected to be rare.

Datenschutzerklärung

Stand: 10.10.2026
